New Vine is seeking expressions of interest for a new Children’s Pastor:

New Vine is currently seeking a person to lead our ministry to children. This person would demonstrate:

  • Maturity in faith
  • Being a strong advocate for children
  • Significant experience in ministry to children (or the strong desire to develop such ministry)
  • Skills in recruiting and managing volunteers
  • Gifted communication

Background

New Vine commenced in 1995 as a collaborative church plant into Newcastle’s growing Northwest. We joined the Association of Baptist Churches in 1997. In 1999 we moved to the new green field suburban area in Maryland & Fletcher and began constructing a new facility. In 2002 we moved in, but are still building with stage 4 near completion!

New Vine is now a regional church with a history of significant ministry to children. We have a paid staff of seven (about 4 full-time equivalent) and a many volunteers! New Vine has a church planting vision and is closely linked with 5 other congregations in what is now called the “New Vine Network” We seek to grow God’s kingdom better together and continue to plant churches. Our current children’s ministry leader is moving on to further theological study and we are looking for a new person to join our team.

In New Vine you will find a church where mission is important, openness to the empowering and leading of the Holy Spirit is encouraged, and the Bible is cherished. We operate with a strong sense of team and we value innovation. The church’s ministry continues to be led by Andrew Cole and Paul Whiting (who together planted the church in 1995) and whose co-leadership continues to morph. Paul now spends much of his time in developing Newvine Network and the Beaches congregation, while Andrew is more central to New Vine Maryland’s functioning. Paul and Andrew serve as part of a LEAD team of 8 who give oversight to the church and staff.

We feel that this ministry role (in the context of the staff team) could suit a variety of people in different stages of life or different ministry experience, so we encourage your prayerful consideration as we are keeping an open mind to how the role might look in the overall staff mix.

Getting to know Newcastle, the city, the valley and Maryland

For those who perhaps would consider moving to Newcastle for this role and are not too familiar with the Hunter… we think it is pretty great! And we would look at helping with uplift costs for the right person!

Newcastle/ Lake Macquarie is the coastal area where the Hunter River meets the Pacific. It is one of Australia’s largest cities, and is also one of the most liveable. A two-hour drive north of Sydney, its 300,000 residents enjoy many lifestyle positives that larger cities cannot. New Vine is located 30 minutes from some of the best beaches in the world and 30 minutes from the rural escapes in the vineyards.

In 2011, Newcastle stepped into the international limelight when it was ranked as one of the top 10 cities in the world by Lonely Planet. The city has a strong beach and sporting culture with increasing cultural diversity and a flourishing arts scene, with theatres and galleries situated near its shops, cafés and restaurants.

The city is also an educational hub for NSW. The University of Newcastle has been a catalyst for international research and innovation, and the city boasts a lively student culture. Newcastle has a diverse range of industries, starting with one of the world’s busiest ports. The city has diversified from manufacturing and energy exports to embrace a range of industries, including agriculture, education, health and tourism. This expansion has resulted in a growing population and ethnic diversity with increasing employment opportunities across various sectors. Newcastle is the major city in NSW’s Hunter Region, alongside Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens and Maitland. Novocastrians are known as hardworking, genuine people.
