About us
Canberra Baptist Church (www.canbap.org) is a community of around 250 people committed to ‘Building a vibrant and open community which is responsive to God’s love in Christ and committed to serving God and people’. Our goals are that, led by the Spirit, we will:
- explore together what it means to follow Jesus today,
- build an inclusive, caring community, and
- share God’s love and justice in words and actions.
We are looking to expand our ministry team to include a person or people with the skills and experience needed to:
- further develop ministries to youth, young adults, and young families, and
- further develop the Currie Crescent Community Centre as a ministry of the church to the surrounding community.
The church has a small youth group, a range of young adult groups, and families currently meet monthly for Family Church.
The Currie Crescent Community Centre (www.curriecrescent.org) was established by the church in 2014. We run some of its programs, while others are run by groups who hire space. Programs include parent groups, a playgroup, support groups (including a cooking program for differently abled people), music, dance, etc. Tara’s Angels, a BaptistCare programme providing support for women who have experienced domestic violence, is also based at the centre.
We value the diversity represented in our community. We welcome and affirm followers of Jesus of all cultural heritage, ability, age, gender identity and sexual orientation, and invite them to participate fully in the life of the church.
