Dear Pastors, Church Secretaries and Administrators,

The Value of Our Assemblies
The overall purpose of our Assemblies is to gather the churches within our Association to “worship and discern the Lord’s leading in its overall direction”. This purpose is so important it is embedded in our Constitution. Assembly is a place to reflect on what God is doing in our midst, connect with others in our movement and glimpse how Jesus is leading us in our collective ministry in this world.
What will be happening at this Assembly?
The focus of this assembly will be to celebrate the ministry of the Baptist Churches in NSW & ACT. More than that it will be an opportunity to look to the future, both collectively and individually, and to celebrate how God is at work in our movement. The assembly will also ask for your discernment and affirmation of God’s leading for several elected positions, further discussion in some significant matters and keep you up-to-date with important activities. During the evening the following matters will be put to the vote:

  • Election of five (5) members of the Assembly Council
  • Election of three (3) members of the Morling College Council
  • Election of two (2) members of the Baptist Churches of NSW Property Trust
  • Approve the 2019 Association Budget
  • Approve a number of persons proceeding to be accredited Ministers
  • Approve updates of the Accreditation Guidelines and the Code of Ethics

Further discussion will also occur around what it means to affiliate together, building on conversations that took place at our assemblies in 2018.

Who is able to attend the Assembly?
To ensure that the widest possible voice is heard, everyone from your church is invited to come and be part of this assembly! You are not limited in the number of non-voting church representatives who can attend. However, we will need to know in advance who will be the official voting church representatives from your church and any other attendees from your church who intend to be a part of this special occasion. The Constitution allows for 2 voting church representatives regardless of church size, plus an additional voting church representative for each 50 members or portion of 50 members after the first 50. This is in addition to any Accredited Ministers or non-Accredited Lead Pastors registering from your church. Church representatives and Alternate Church representatives must register before 24 April to be eligible to vote, as per the Constitution. Accredited ministers, non-accredited lead pastors and non-voting church representatives can continue to register until 1 May.
Additional Venue – ACT
As part of the ongoing commitment to facilitate engagement at our Association Assemblies outside of the Sydney basin, provision is now available for Association assemblies to include additional assembly venues in addition to the main assembly location. These additional venues are considered part of the Sydney metro based Association Assembly. This is a big step forward for the Association and is a positive move towards ensuring that all Baptist Churches in NSW & ACT can be engaged in an Association Assembly event. Activities in these Additional Assembly venues are governed by the constitution and conducted in conjunction with the metro assembly. The first ever Additional assembly venue for the Baptist Association will be hosted by Mosaic Baptist Church – Evatt Campus! We would like as many people as possible to participate in this Assembly from the ACT region and surrounds. By attending this event you will have the same voting rights as the metro Assembly and you will be able to interact with the Sydney gathering and participate in all voting. To Register for the Additional Venue Click Here
It is vital for all voting church representatives to pre-register by 24 April 2019, for catering and to ensure we have adequate seating. Please register and purchase your dinner online HERE. If the cost proves a difficulty then please contact Kylie Hood ( We do not want anyone to miss out on this event simply due to cost. Annual Assembly is timed to coincide with our new event The Gathering, which takes place at the same venue on Thursday 2nd May. Born out of the success of Celebrate150 in 2018, it is a one-day event designed for everyone in our Baptist movement; to engage, challenge and inspire in serving and following Jesus! Please note that registering and paying to come to The Gathering is separate to registering and paying for the Assembly. If you would like to attend both, it is necessary to register and pay for both.

I look forward to sharing with you at our Assembly as we celebrate and discern God’s will for our movement.

Jamie Long Chair, Assembly Council
