Join us as Carolyn Cousins and a panel of local professionals help us prevent and address Domestic & Family Violence in our churches and communities. Learn about responding to the victim, responding to the perpetrator, and child protection issues. Discuss, and get connected with some of the DFV services in your area.
- Kylie McKenzie from the Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre, a Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service
- Jillian Knight-Smith from Women Up North, a Specialist Homelessness Services under the Going Home Staying Home (GHSH) reform plan
- Sarah Drury & Hunter McBride from Men & Family Centre, which has been running Men’s Behaviour Change Programs since 1993
- John Wilson, regional minister for the Northern Rivers area with the Baptist Association
- Jenna Aslin, a Domestic Violence Liaison Officer with Lismore Police
- Keira from Good Shepherd, which runs the Financial Independence Hub in partnership with Commbank, training survivors of DFV to gain confidence in taking control of their finances.

More about the facilitator:
Carolyn Cousins is a social worker and adult educator who has worked in the trauma (child protection / domestic violence) and mental health sectors in Australia and the UK. She has Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Social Work, a Masters of Education (Adult) and recently completed the requirements of a Masters in Applied Neuroscience.
Carolyn has worked with churches and faith communities around DFV and also worked with NSW Police writing their specialised DFV training. She recently facilitated the Staying Home Leaving Violence for the Department of Communities Justice. She currently provides individual and group supervision to professionals in a range of fields and was, until recently, the Convener of the Clinical Division of the Australian College of Social Work. Carolyn is an article reviewer for a number of UK journals and provides training for NSW Health and a range of NGO’s.
About the project:
This Forum is part of the Creating Safe Spaces Northern Rivers Project sponsored by the James Frizelle Charitable Foundation. Through this DFV Forum and free Child Safe training (for qualifying churches), the project aims to increase church and community groups’ capacity to respond to domestic violence and child safety issues.
