The Chinese and Australian Baptist Church – West Ryde (located in 1 Reserve Street, West Ryde) is currently seeking for a Senior Pastor to lead the pastoral team and the church. The church has been established for over 30 years, starting off as a migrant church of Chinese ethnic background, and with God’s grace it has now grown to a multi-ethnic church with over 500 attendees attending 4 congregations and 5 Sunday services in the West Ryde and Meadowbank areas. The Sunday services are held in 3 locations (West Ryde Hall at 1 Reserve Street, West Ryde Community Hall, and Marsden High School). The job description, and roles/responsibilities for the Senior Pastor are listed below:
Position: Senior Pastor of CABC-West Ryde
Title: Senior Pastor
Responsible to: The Lord, pastors, church members and church council/leaders
Purpose: The key spiritual and leadership role for CABC- West Ryde and team leader of its ministries/congregations
Training: Theological training with at least a Master degree of Divinity (desirable).
Status: Full time Staff
Experience: Minimum of eight years’ experiences of pastoral role in church context
Preferred Language skills: English(required) / Mandarin or Cantonese(preferred)
Roles & Responsibilities:
- The primary caster, driver and recruiter of the church vision
- Overseer and co-ordinator with the development and implementation of the vision for the church
- Inspires the staff and the congregation to embrace the vision
- Co-ordinates strategic and developmental planning
- A team leader, with the ability to lead the planning process, train and develop a team of ministry leaders
- Ability to work with Church leadership
- Nurture and build the other pastoral team members
- Encourage, train and support lay leadership
- Role model for other pastors, leaders & church members
- Account for own performance and that of the ministry leaders
- Providing doctrinal stability and advice when dealing with difficult issues.
- Guides the core ministries of the church – worship, teaching, evangelism, community service, fellowship / Pastoral care, administration / leadership
- Co-ordinates ministry areas with staff and lay leaders
- Liaises with and reports to church governance (Church Council)
Essential Qualities Required:
- Deep and strong personal relationship with God
- Person who can handle authority and also be made accountable
- Possesses a teachable heart and a lifelong learner
- A proven team leader to mentor, coach and lead other pastoral team members
- A compelling, clear, creative and passionate communicator.
- Good interpersonal skills including conflict resolution.
- Work with different cultures.
- Ministry experience in Australian context.
- As a minimum language requirement, fluent in English plus Cantonese/Mandarin preferably all three languages
