Hi everyone, and welcome to the June edition of Pastors and Leaders eNews!
I’m writing this having just spent a number of days in our Riverina region. It was so encouraging to be able to meet up with pastors and leaders and sense their commitment to Jesus and his mission, their creative capacity, and purposeful resolve to lead well and in godly ways.
Andrew Skewes, our regional minister in the Riverina, shared with pastors & chaplains who gathered for a day of connection and input the NT examples of leaders whose life and leadership was characterised by being ‘full of faith and the Holy Spirit” (Acts 6:5). I pray this may be true of myself and all of us.
Passing of Mike Dennis
Rev Mike Dennis served Baptist Churches across Australia from the mid 1950’s through to his retirement in 2013, including long pastorates at Narwee and Thornleigh Community Baptist Churches, and served as President of the Baptist Union in 2000-2001.
Mike was a superb preacher and pastor, gifted leader and humble servant. He leaves an amazing legacy in the lives of the thousands he ministered to and with, and the many young pastors that he mentored as they trained for and began their ministries.
The Baptist Association of NSW and ACT is deeply thankful for Mike’s decades of service and his remarkable influence on our denomination over this time. We send our love and condolences to his wonderful wife Meg.
The service celebrating his life will be on Friday 30th June at 11 am at Thornleigh Community Baptist Church.

Australia – Hawaii Pastors Exchange Opportunity
In 2016 we began a conversation with the leaders of the Hawaii Baptist Churches. This resulted in visits to each other’s countries to see and understand respective missional objectives, priorities, structures and resources.
From our meetings and discussions, we believe we can learn much from one another. There was a sense of relationship, shared values, and ministry philosophy. There was mutual agreement on partnership opportunities between Associations, Churches, and Pastors as well as opportunities to partner together in the broader Pacific Region. Above all, there was a strong sense that God was drawing the two Associations/Networks together and raising up new opportunities for learning, encouragement and mission.
Although there are numerous possibilities with this partnership we want to begin this partnership by establishing pastor exchanges. We want the focus to be on building relationships and giving Pastors and Leaders opportunities to gain some wider ministry exposure and learning opportunities as well as building new ministry relationships.
We are now collecting applications from Pastors and Churches interested in participating in a Pastors Exchange with Hawaii.
To find out more and complete the application form, please see this link: https://nswactbaptists.org.au/hawaii-australian-partnership/
Applications for this first round of exchanges will close on Friday 14th July.

Updated Research – Faith and Belief in Australia by McCrindle
In 2011, Olive Tree Media released the Australian Communities Report, carried out by McCrindle Research, to inform the series Towards Belief. While the research was originally completed for the series, it has become a very significant resource for a number of ministries in understanding what the Australian community thinks of Christianity and the Church.
At the end of 2016, several ministry leaders approached Olive Tree Media and McCrindle Research with the desire for this research to be repeated to provide an updated perspective.
This new research, Faith and Belief in Australia: A national study on religion, spirituality and worldview trends, is now completed and has generously been made publically available. The material is downloadable at http://faithandbelief.org.au/
I commend the material to you and for distribution through your networks.
