COMMUNICATIONS AND EVENTS TEAM
Rev Aaron Veart, Team Leader

2020 was a huge year for the Communications and Events team.

What started off as a relatively normal year, welcoming our new Events Coordinator Emma Meyer, quickly become the 2020 we have come to know and love. Emma, was presented with every obstacle and challenge in her first few months (and year), facing them with passion and determination. Apart from the BYM State Conference and the Pastors and Leaders Day all other events throughout the year were impacted by COVID with cancellations, postponed events and significant shifts in format.

2020 led to agile and creative approaches to our events and communications including the weekly, and then fortnightly, Q&A sessions, Online Leadership Conversation, State Youth Camp, Spiritual Care Course and Domestic Violence Training.

Kate Devlin, Communications Coordinator (supported by Kim Hall), was central to the rapid, clear and comprehensive COVID communications to our churches. Kate also led the Zoom revolution within the many ministries of the BMC which included the Q&A sessions that saw the majority of Baptist churches and leaders in NSW & ACT supported, encouraged and connected across the year.

Our Annual Assembly saw 6 additional Assembly venues connecting with the main site  (the most ever), engaging more regional locations and adapting to the ever-changing COVID restrictions.

We also saw the launch of our new story telling resource ‘Our Story’ and the appointment of Emily Christoforou as a Content Creator. Our Story incorporates both printed and online media to share the story of our movements journey towards the GEN1K goal “To be a movement of 1000 healthy churches in a generation.”
