JobKeeper Payment: A guide for NSW and ACT Baptist Churches (including step-by-step process)

The Australian go􏰌vernment has announced an ex􏰇tension to the JobKeeper Pa􏰃yments to 28 March 2021. The e􏰇xisting JobKeeper Pa􏰃ment w􏰍ill remain in place until 27 September 2020 􏰍with no changes to the requirements.

The pa􏰃ment rate of $1,500 per fortnight for eligible emplo􏰃yees and business participants 􏰍will be reduced to $1,200 per fortnight from 28 September 2020 and to $1,000 per fortnight from 4 Januar􏰃y 2021. From 28 September 2020, lo􏰍wer pa􏰃yment rates 􏰍will appl􏰃y for emplo􏰃ees and business participants that 􏰍worked few􏰍er than 20 hours per 􏰍week. Emplo􏰃yers 􏰍will be required to reassess their eligibilit􏰃y 􏰍with reference to actual turno􏰌ver instead of projected turnov􏰌er. The JobKeeper Pa􏰃ment 􏰍will continue to remain open to new􏰍 recipients, pro􏰌ided they􏰃 meet the ex􏰇isting eligibility􏰃 requirements and the additional turno􏰌ver requirements during the ex􏰇tension period.

Jobkeeper Overview

The Australian government has passed legislation for a wage subsidy (the JobKeeper Payment) that will be paid to eligible employers, providing $1,500 per fortnight for each eligible employee for up to 26 weeks (13 fortnights) commencing 30 March 2020.

This document outlines eligibility criteria, how to work out fall in turnover and practical steps on how to enrol and make claims. There are also examples as a guide that are relevant for most Baptist Churches in NSW and ACT.

Urgent action is required if your church wishes to claim from commencement date with a 30 April 2020 deadline.
