Ku-ring-gai Christian Education Association Inc (KCEA) is an ecumenical association of local churches that provides Special Religious Education (SRE) at Ku-ring-gai High School. We are seeking to appoint a passionate and gifted SRE Teacher to deliver a regular SRE program to students in Years 7-10, and potentially to coordinate seminars for Years 11-12. The position has a three day a week workload.
KCEA invites applicants who have demonstrated experience in teaching the bible, building relationships, and enthusiasm for working with young people and a passion for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in a professional classroom setting. Teaching qualifications and classroom experience are highly desirable, but anyone with the above ministry experience is encouraged to apply.
About the role:
The SRE Teacher will:
- Prepare and deliver engaging lessons using the approved Think Faith (Youthworks) curriculum and materials
- Look to establish and coordinate a lunchtime Christian student group, fostering student leadership
- Prepare content for and edit the KCEA quarterly newsletter
- Liaise with and report to the KCEA Committee, including attendance at quarterly meetings and supporter prayer breakfasts/evenings
- Visit partner churches and share updates as needed
About you:
We are looking for someone with:
- A love for Jesus and a passion for sharing the good news with young people in a professional classroom setting
- Demonstrated teaching experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to build positive relationships
- Experience with current teaching methods and classroom technology
- A theological qualification (or actively working towards one) from an approved institution
- A formal teaching qualification (desirable)
- Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and fulfil all compliance requirements for SRE teachers
- An acceptance of and commitment to proclaim the Christian Statement of Belief as defined by Scripture Union NSW at https://sunsw.org.au/about/what-we-believe/
Requirements:
The successful applicant will:
- Hold a current Working with Children Check number
- Have completed church-based Child Protection Training within the past 3 years
- Hold or be willing to obtain SRE teacher authorisation
Salary will be paid in accordance with qualifications and experience guided by the NSW Department of Education pay scales.
