Church Constitution Guidance

A church constitution exists to serve that church’s mission and ministry. It outlines important principles regarding how the church is organised and governed so helping to create shared expectations among church members and the broader church community. A constitution that is relevant and easy to understand helps to facilitate church health.

The Church Health Team has prepared guidance for churches when drawing up or revising a constitution for a church is an unincorporated association. The guidance highlights what a constitution should include and what a constitution could include. There is also a sample simple constitution template and a sample detailed constitution template, either of which a church can take and amend to suit its particular circumstances. This guidance can be accessed via the link below.
